How do I assign a test?

In order to assign a test, you must first:

  1. Have created a class. To learn how to create a class, see How do I create a class? or,
  2. Have either created a test from scratch or copied/adapted a test from an existing Gill & Macmillan one.

For more information, please see How do I create a test?

To assign a test to your class, please follow the steps below:

  1. Click on My Profile on the right hand side of the page.
  2. See a list of your tests in your My Tests area on the right hand side of the page.
  3. Under the title of each test will be several web tools. Click on Assign.
  4. Select which class group you are assigning the test to from the drop down box.
  5. There are several additional test options that control how your students interact with the test:
    1. One Question per screen
If you tick this box your student will see only one question at a time.
    2. Randomise Question Order
If you tick this box the questions will appear in random sequence. Leaving the box blank will ensure that they will appear in the sequence that you specified when creating the test.
    3. Display Question Number
This option displays the question number beside each question. Tick the box and question number will not appear.
    4. Hide Identity
Each test is displayed with the identity of the user who created the test included in the display. Tick the box and it will hide this identity so your students do not know who created the test.
    5. Anonymous Survey
Allows you to separate the students’ identity from the test results allowing for an anonymous survey of knowledge rather than a formal test.
    6. Enforce Time Limit
Only tick this box if you wish to enforce a specified time limit on the test.
    7. Time Limit (Mins)
Enter the number of minutes that you allow for the test.
    8. Time Warning
Enter the number of minutes before the end of a time limited test that a time warning should be given.
    9. Assessment Mode
This allows you to choose from four assessment modes for the test which can be used when displaying one question at a time.
      1. Normal: This allows the students to move forwards and backwards through the test with the ability to mark a question for later review.
      2. Normal No-Marking: As above but without the option to review later.
      3. Forward Only: The students can only proceed forwards through the test.
      4. Instructional Review: If you have provided instructional feedback to the student this will be provided after each question has been answered.
  6. Test Period Start & Finish.

This allows you to specify a date and time during which the test must be taken. When you have chosen your preferred options, click Save at the top of the page.
